Currently, GIS acts as a holding company which owns and controls stakes in the following companies:
- 100% ownership of Al Koot Insurance and Reinsurance Company S.A.Q. (Al Koot);
- 69.99% ownership of Gulf Drilling International Limited Q.S.C. (GDI);
- 100% ownership of Gulf Helicopters Company Q.S.C. (GHC); and
- 100% ownership of Amwaj Catering Services Limited (Amwaj).

5. Qatar, the Economy and the GCC
5.1 What makes Qatar an attractive place for investment?

Over recent years, investment legislation has been streamlined to encourage business and Qatar is taking active steps to make itself more investor friendly. Today, Qatar allows full foreign ownership of enterprises operating in a number of sectors subject to approval from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce.

Gulf International Services was set up with the aim of consolidating several successful and prosperous Qatari companies with similar business purposes; that is, support services to Qatar’s oil and gas industries. GIS is a holding company, and therefore, investing in GIS should not be viewed as a single company investment but similar to a portfolio investment. Our portfolio is diversified across the oil and gas sectors, it is a good investment in regard to performance and financial return due to the diversity of operations of its group companies.
